・従来のColab Pro, Colab Pro+にも暗黙の使用枠があったが明確ではなかった
・使用枠がコンピューティング ユニットいう形で明示化され従量課金制になった
・使用枠を使いきると無料版Colabと同等になるが追加で枠を購入する事は可能
2.Google Colaboratoryの価格体系が改訂
アイキャッチ画像はstable diffusionの1.5版の生成でフィンセント・ファン・ゴッホの代表作の1つ「馬鈴薯を食べる人々」から着想を得た「カレーのおかわりを薦める人とそれを無心に食べる人」 by Vincent van Gogh style.
2023年7月追記)現在、Pro版では明示的にGPUをT4、V100、A100から選択できるようになっています。V100の搭載メモリは16GBでユニット使用量は1 時間あたり約 5.36です。またランタイムのタイプはPython 3以外にRが選択可能になっています。
従来、有料版のColab Pro、Colab Pro+は「毎月一定額を支払う事によって無料版のColabと比較して(スペックの保証はしませんが)上位版のランタイムやGPUを優先的に割り当てます」という扱いで、具体的にどのレベルの差があるのかは明言されていませんでした。
上記を読むと無制限に上位版を使えていたように読めますが、しかし、内部的には一定の使用枠を設定していたそうで「月前半に使いまくって枠を使い切ったユーザが月後半に無料版のColabとほぼ同等のスペックしか使えない事に対してクレームを上げてくる」と言った事態を避けるため、有料期間内のスペックが平準化するようにランタイムのスペックを調整して割り当てていたとの事です。
2022年9月30日以降、この使用枠を可視化した「コンピューティング ユニット」という概念が発表されて料金体系に大きな変更がありました。
(1)Colab 無料版
・使いすぎない限り、通常はNVIDIA T4が割り当てられます。
・明示されていませんが、一日当たりの最大コンピューティング ユニットが新たに設定されたようで、数時間動かしっぱなしにするとエラーが出て使えなくなります。
(2)Colab Pro
・\1,179円(\1,072円+107円(税))/月で毎月100コンピューティング ユニット(有効期限90日)を定期購入するサブスク契約扱いとなりました。
・プレミアムGPUを選択するとNVIDIA V100かA100が割り当てられます。
・コンピューティング ユニットを使い切るとColab 無料版相当に戻ります。
(3)Colab Pro+
・\5,767円(\5,243+\524(税))/月で毎月500コンピューティング ユニット(有効期限90日)を定期購入しているサブスク契約扱いとなりました。
・プレミアムGPUを選択するとNVIDIA V100 か A100が優先的に割り当てられます。
・コンピューティング ユニットを使い切ると無料版相当に戻ります。
・ブラウザを閉じても最大24時間バックグラウンド実行が可能です。
(4)Pay As You Go
・サブスク契約がなくともコンピューティング ユニットは購入可能です。
・\1,072円+税で100コンピューティング ユニット(有効期限90日)
・\5,243円+税で500コンピューティング ユニット(有効期限90日)
・より速い GPU、より強力なプレミアム GPU にアップグレード可能
ですので、Colab ProやColab Pro+をサブスク契約していなくともPay As You Goで利用枠をスポット購入して上位版のGPUを利用可能です。また、サブスク契約済の方もその月の定期購入枠分のコンピューティング ユニットを使い切ってしまったら無料版と同等の扱いになるので、購入枠以上使いたかったらPay As You Goで追加分をお買い上げくださいね、と言う事のようです。
以前はColab Proは単にコンピューティング ユニットを毎月定期購入しているだけで、いつでも同額で同枠を購入できるPay As You Goとの差別化はほぼなかったです。しかし、段々と無料版の条件が悪くなっており現状は以下です。悲しいです。
・TERMINAL機能が使えなくなる
・無料版相当になるのでDISKもメモリも少なく、長時間実行時は使っていてもブチブチと切れてランタイムがリセットされる
・更に、2023年12月時点、アップデートでColab無料版ではシステムメモリ量が多いハイメモリ版のランタイムを選択できなくなりました。そのため、サイズが12GBを超えるモデルを読みこむ事が出来なくなっています。T4のGPUメモリ16GBにギリギリ収まるモデルでもシステムメモリ不足で動かせません。
コンピューティング ユニットはギリギリ足りているはずであっても余裕をもって途中切断されてしまう事がありますので、気を付けましょう
この変更に伴い、前述の「ランタイムの割当時にスペックを平準化」する配慮は有料版では撤廃されたとの事で、私が現在利用中のColab Pro+ではGPU クラスを「プレミアム」に設定するとガンガン「A100-SXM4-40GB」を割り当ててくれるようになっており、価格体系の変更をよく理解していなかった私などは「えっ 今日はA100使ってもいいのか!!」「ああ…好きなだけ使え。おかわりもいいぞ!」という、どこかで聞いた事のあるお話を身を持って体験する事になります。
コンピューティング ユニットの1時間辺りの消費率は大まかに以下です。(V100はまだ引けてないのでわからないです)
GPUなしの標準マシンタイプ: 1 時間あたり約 0.08
T4の標準マシンタイプ:1 時間あたり約 1.96
TPU v2のハイメモリマシンタイプ: 1 時間あたり約 2.05
A100のハイメモリマシンタイプ: 1 時間あたり約 13.08
A100のランタイムを使用した場合、500÷13.08 = 38時間、Stable Diffusionの微調整などをやり始めると1か月分のお小遣い5000円(500コンピューティング ユニット)を1.5日で使い切ってしまいます。
私はメモリ搭載量の多いGPUでなければ動かせないモデルを動かしたい側面もあるのでA100で最速処理する事より、A100よりは価格がお安いと思われるV100を細く長く使わせて頂いた方が都合が良い時もあるのですが、GPUクラスを「標準」に指定するとT4が割り当てられたので明示的にV100を指定する事は従来通り出来なさそうです。
1コンピューティング ユニットが約10円とすれば、A100は130円/時間。
これは大手のパブリッククラウドと比較すればまだだいぶお安いですが、GPU演算に特化したクラウドサービスとはあまり価格差がないレベルです。
Colabのアカウントを複数同時利用していたヘビーユーザーにとってはアカウント管理が楽になり、ガチャ運の要素がより少なくなったので確実性が増した側面はあるかもしれません。しかし、従来と同じような感覚で使う事は出来なくなったと思った方が良いです。
なお、Pay As You Goでも足りない場合はGCPでColab接続設定済みの仮想マシンを簡単に動かせるようにしてあるからそちらを使ってね、と紹介されていましたが、以下のような価格感でやはりクラウドで専用機を構築するのはまだ敷居が高いです。 (※1 ドル = 144.58 JPY の為替レートで計算)。
2023年6月更新情報)
現在、私はColab Proを使っていますが、2つのインスタンス(つまり、ブラウザを2画面で開いて別々のColab)を動かす事ができています。Colab Pro+はもっと動かせるのではないかと思います。また、対話的ではない使い方をしている場合、無料版では規約違反の警告が出るようになりました。これはAUTOMATIC1111等の画像生成AI用のWebアプリを動かすためのバックエンドとしてColabを使う事が流行っているためです。有料版では今のところ大丈夫です。
それと、Colab用のDocker Imageも公開されるようになっていますが、イメージサイズは24Gと非常に巨大です。
